American Lifeguard and Safety Training™
PLEASE NOTE THIS PROGRAM IS NO LONGER BEING OFFERED AT THIS TIME
The American Lifeguard and Safety Training™ is a trademark of the American Lifeguard Association® health and safety courses. The American Lifeguard Association has been offering lifeguard training for over 30 years and has trained over 250,000 individuals worldwide. The US Labor Department has determined our lifeguard programs are equivalent to the American Red Cross training program.
To participate in our FREE Lifeguard training program, you must be 16 or older, willing and able to work from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day 2020, with an employer of our choice in Northern Virginia and willing to accept $7.25 per hour with possible time and a half for overtime. You will need to be able to work full-time, except during school hours if attending locally. Note that this pay is lower than the standard Lifeguard/Pool Operator pay rate, which can be up to $14 or more per hour, but the program allows individuals who do not have the funds otherwise to obtain the training.
In general, the candidate will be receiving Lifeguard training that cost $385.00 and SPSA Swimming Pool Operator’s program which normally cost $250.00, but at no cost to them under this FREE training offer. The total value of this free program is $635.00.
The $100.00 deposit is refunded upon successful completion of the course on May 2, 2020. Once the candidate starts working for the employer of our choice, a 2-year Lifeguard certification card with CPR/AED and First Aid and also a 3-year swimming pool operator permit will be issued.
Special note: The student must successfully pass our May 2, 2020, Saturday session from 7 am to 2 pm, and successfully complete the SPSA self-study Swimming Pool Operators course within 10 days of registering. Location of the Saturday session will be at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia located at 8900 Little River Tpke Fairfax, VA 22031.
If they fail to successfully complete the deep-water Lifeguarding program on May 2, 2020, and the swimming pool operator’s course within 10 days of registering, they will forfeit their full deposit and receive no certifications. The reason why we require a deposit is we want only serious and dedicated individuals to attend this training. The purpose of this program is that it is a way students can obtain Lifeguard training and swimming pool operation at no cost to them and be guaranteed to work near their home.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS: If you want to pick your employer, then you need to enroll in our other First Time Lifeguarding program which is at a cost. With this FREE program, the employer will reimburse us for your full training fees, and because of this, you must work with an employer of our choice for the summer of 2020.
If when you arrive for your training session at the JCC, you decide not to continue with the program, we will withdraw you from the training and will give your full deposit back. Our concern is that space is limited, and we need to get an accurate count of how many students to expect. We feel confident that if the student takes their training with us seriously, that they will successfully pass. You will be required to be able to swim 300 yards without stopping, and also swim while carrying a 10 lb weight 25 yards. Important Notice: We reserve the right to decline any candidate in this program, and if this action is taken a full refund will be given as long as the participant shows for their scheduled training sessions.
